Manchester HEP Computing

The University of Manchester has a long history of leadership in computing research, including the world's first stored-program electronic computer in 1948.

We are heavily involved in several Grid and e-Science research areas, and maintain significant kilohost-scale Tier 2 cluster for the LHC Computing Grid.

Particle physics here are supported by a desktop and server infrastructure based on AFS and Linux, following our pioneering application of Linux to Particle Physics environments. (For example, we contributed the first RPM distribution of CERNLIB back in 1996.) Windows and Mac systems are also used for some desktop and notebook machines.

The internal webpages have documentation and software for the local computing systems here.
