Welcome to California!
Every few months my belly dance teacher, Sandra, puts on a student night at a local Persian restaurant. Belly dance is a folk dance which should be done socially. So the idea is that we get used to dancing in front of people while we're absolute beginners. That way, by the time we get any good at dancing, we'll be comfortable doing it in a performance setting.
So this was my first performance, with the rest of the beginners class. The audience is whoever's eating in the restaurant, which is mainly friends and family of the dancers. I was terrified before the show but once we came out and the crowd started cheering it felt really good! Five friends from work came to cheer me on and the whole night was a lot of fun.
This is my favourite photo because I just happened to be smiling towards the camera! So I've been using this photo all over the place :-)
Shake that booty!
Here you can see my weird "I'm concentrating" expression which I make in nearly all the photos! I didn't realise I made this face so I'm glad I can try and smile next time. This is why these performances are useful!
The expression I'm making here is even worse - thats why this photo is last and small :-S Plus I look like I'm doing 80s dancing!
Reach for the sky! As you can see the crowd are sitting right in front of us.
Look at my coins shaking!
Yay - I couldn't resist this photo again. I wanted to pretend that I smiled more often!
