EMC Recabling - November 2006

In November 2006 the Electromagnetic Calorimeter (EMC) at the BaBar detector was recabled. This basically means it had to be put back together. This was tricky! Electronics boards had to be put back into the detector then all the electronics had to be tested. Many broken electronics had to be replaced. The electronics team is made up of Jong, Tim, Jen and me (apart from Jong we are all new to this). We also got a lot of help from Martin, who knows everything! In charge of the EMC at the moment is Andy. The 6 of us worked up to 12 hours a day for 8 days (some of these people worked even longer) plus we had a lot of help from many other people. Here are some photos of us all at work.

The EMC recabling team

Here are the recabling team in front of the detector: Roberto, Moritz, Andy, Steve, Kim, Jen, Martin, Jong and Wolfgang.

Here are Roberto and Moritz hard at work. They're putting IOBs back in the detector.

Steve, Andy and Martin

Martin is wearing the white hat - it looks like he's thinking about how we're going to fix everything! Andy is next to him - he's in charge of the EMC; he's a great boss. Finally Steve is keeping an eye on the work going on above.

Tim on the manlift

Here's Tim on the manlift - obviously he's very excited to be a part of the recabling team!

Kim on the manlift

Here's me on the manlift in front of the detector face. Classic 'Woman in industry' pose! :-)

Jen in the ehut

Here's Jen hard at work in the ehut. The wall behind her is where the electronics are. This room is where me and Jen tested all the EMC electronics.
