Welcome to California!
I've devided the pictures from Lassen National Park into 3 sections:
This shows all the beautiful scenery pictures from the whole weekend. Lassen Peak last erupted in 1915 and the area was turned into a nation park in 1916 because of its significance as an active volcano landscape. There are also lava plateaus and cinder cones, but only the people on the two day hike saw these.
King's Creek Falls.
This is the edge of the snow!
The path gets steeper...
The view from Lassen Peak.
Here's a frozen lake up close. You can really see the blue! (Photo by Henning Flaecher).
Bumpass Hell.
A lovely green hillside. All the melted snow kept it lush.
There were cold gasses bubbling out of this lake. You can't really see, but it's beautiful anyway.
Here's a lovely valley.
This is the path up the side of Lassen Peak.
...but the veiws get better.
This is Lassen Peak seen from the ground. I was on the top of it!
The blue and red colours you can see were even brighter in real life. They are caused but different gases in the atmosphere at such low pressures getting stuck in the snow. Or something.
The stinking, sulphurous mud of hell! (Photo by Henning Flaecher).
A waterfall we had to cross.
