SLAC - Where I Work

The official SLAC website.

SLAC is a major complex of buildings over a large area. However, day-to-day I only go between my building and the caferteria. These buildings are on either side of a large open grass area, which is like a central 'square' for the whole complex. I only have photos of this area. One day I'll go and take photos of the control room for BaBar, the 'Gas Shack' and other interesting places.

My building is called the 'Research Office Building' or ROB. This is where all BaBar research takes place. Each University has an office, which gives it a real community feel. I'm in the Manchester office, (obviously), then down the corridor are all the other UK offices. People pop in and out of the offices all the time to chat, or see if anyone wants to come to lunch, or to bitch about their analysis, etc. Plus everyone is constantly sending out group emails, which is how everything gets organised.

People playing football.

Every lunch time people play (English) football on the grass. It makes me feel very much at home!
