I work on the Trigger/DAQ for the ATLAS Experiment that will run at the LHC collider located at CERN. The work includes:

  • Remote Farms
  • Protocols in Trigger/DAQ
  • Gigabit Ethernet Performance
  • SCI Scalable Coherent Interface

Networking issues for transporting Radio Astronomy Very Long Baseline Interferometer data include:

  • High Throughput
  • New Protocols (TCP stacks & DDCP)
  • RAID Disk Sub-System Performance
  • SC2004 BandWidth Challenge and Demonstrations
  • Network Performance: Latency, Throughput, Jitter, Packet Loss, 1-way delay
  • End Host Behaviour: PCI/PCI-X Bus Activity, Memory bus, CPU load, Interrupts
  • Motherboards, NICs, TOEs, Switches & Routers

RAID and Disk sub-system tests

  • ESLEA RAID Disk Sub-System Performance (SC2004)

  • MB-NG & BarBar Disk Sub-System Performance

MB-NG is a 2.5 Gbit MPLS development network in the UK provided by UKERNA. As well as investigating QoS and MPLS the work includes:

ICFA SCSI

SCI [Scalable Coherent Interface (ANSI-IEEE Std 1596-1992)]. From 1992 to 1998 the Manchester HEP group designed and built several interfaces to test the SCI memory-memory interconnect for use in the Level2 Trigger of the ATLAS experiment. SCI was extensively tested at CERN in the ATLAS Demo_B project during 1997 and 1998.
